My Greek Kitchen
Price: AUD 40.00 Author: Mary Valle

It is usually the "other Mary" at Reader's Feast who becomes enthused by cookbooks, but this one caught my eye. The design and layout of the book is a welcome return to simplicity and genuine recipe-focused text, yet it still manages to provide historical context for the author's interest in Greek cooking. Those of us fortunate to live in "Greek-influenced" Melbourne will be familiar with the names of many of the dishes Mary Valle presents, though we may not have previously understood they are as easy to make and enjoy at home. - Reviewed by Mary D

My Abuela's Table
Price: AUD 35.00 Author: Daniella Germain

Just as with the cookbook reviewed above, this is a book that celebrates the tradition of handing recipes down through the generations. In this instance, it is a celebration of Daniella's grandmother's (or abuela's) Mexican cooking. What is interesting and unusual about this book is the nature of its publication. Daniella is a designer who created the book's illustrations for an elective unit of study whilst at university. A visit to her blog reveals her diverse career, as well as her talent and excitement that this book has now come to fruition. Worthy of dipping into for the design as much as the recipes, this will be a unique addition to your book collection.

Mosh Potatoes
Price: AUD 29.99 Author: Steve Seabury

It seems like everyone is bringing out a cookbook these days and just when we thought we had seen it all along comes Mosh Potatoes. This is a collection of recipes and anecdotes from the world of heavy metal music. Why not try Rock 'n' Rolly Guacamole from Jeff Pilson of Dokken, or Krakotoa Surprise from Lemmy of Motorhead (this one comes with a note from the editor to "prepare at your own risk"). Looks like the music is not the only thing in the lives of these musicians that is hard core! Of course, though, the music references abound. Appetisers are Opening Acts, main meals are Headliners, and desserts could only be called Encores.

More Than French

Mouchel's collaborator, Rita Erlich, says working with the renowned French chef taught her about "the double helix of passion and skill that is at the centre of his cooking." This doesn't mean you have to be a master chef to prepare the meals in this book. Those with little experience as well as the more seasoned home cooks will be tempted to try these easy to follow recipes. There's a great range covering soups, appetisers, fish and seafood, meat, vegetables and dessert all interspersed with stories from Mouchel's life and international career.
